Using a Mobile Phone and Laptop to Stay Organised
When completing homework, use a timer on your phone to keep you on track and focused
Try working in blocks of 30 to 40 minutes, followed by a short break. If you’re up for it, set a timer for your breaks too, so that you don’t take a 45-minute break when you only intended to take a 10-minute break.
Use Apps to make studying fun, keep you organised...and remove distractions
- Habitica - an app that turns your goals into a fun game. It makes it more likely that you’ll stick to your goals and enjoy the process too
- MyStudyLife - this app replaces a planner and helps you organise your schedule, tasks and exam preparation. It also sends you reminders of upcoming events.
- KeepMeOut - an online tool that prevents you from visiting distracting websites too often. It will help you concentrate while you’re working.
- Google Calendar - add everything to your online calendar: homework, test and exam dates, family events, social events, etc. This way, you’ll be far more organised. Each week, take a few minutes to see what important events and deadlines are coming up over the next month. This will help to ensure that you don’t overlook any important projects, tests, or assignments.
Sticky Notes & Memo
Use Sticky Notes app (for Android) or Memo app (for iOS) to jot down the things you don’t understand as you complete homework, read your textbooks and review your notes. Keep the notes on your desktop. As soon as you’re able to, ask your teachers about the items on your list.
The Advantages of Students Using Technology to Learn
As a student, you expect a 21st-century learning experience - one that’s convenient, tailored to your needs and saves you time, which is exactly what mobile learning does. Technology can also help your parents and carers connect with teachers and stay up to date with your progress at school.
Preparing for the Workplace
Embracing technology in education will familiarise you with ways of learning that are increasingly adopted in today’s workplace, preparing you for what you will no doubt come across in future employment. Integrating technologies into your learning experience helps you build the digital skills you'll need beyond education.
