Viking religion
The Viking Age was a period of considerable religious change in Scandinavia. Part of the popular image of the Vikings is that they were all pagans, with a hatred of the Christian Church, but this view is very misleading. It is true that almost the entire population of Scandinavia was pagan at the beginning of the Viking Age, but the Vikings had many gods, and it was no problem for them to accept the Christian god alongside their own.
Legends & Chronicles: Viking religion and beliefs
The ancient Norse Vikings had what was commonly known as a pagan religion. This means that they had a religion that was not one of the primary religions like Christianity, and they did not acknowledge those religions or their belief systems. It was common for what are considered pagan religions to believe in many gods rather than one. The Vikings had their own form of religion as such which conformed to this idea and as such was based around their various gods, goddesses, giants and mythical beliefs.
Viking age religion and beliefs
Norse religion refers to the religious beliefs and practices of pre-Christian Scandanavia, especially during the Viking era. It also known as Germanic paganism, Germanic religion, or Norse mythology.
