While an adequate number of bedrooms and access to working facilities enables a household to function effectively, overcrowding and/or a lack of working facilities can pose serious health risks, such as greater exposure to infectious diseases, passive smoking and a range of other stressors.

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Survey, 2014-15: Employment The 2014–15 NATSISS estimated 257,400 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 15 years and over were participating in the labour force (that is, they were employed or unemployed). This represents a labour force participation rate of 58%. Males were more likely than females to be participating in the labour force (65% compared with 52%), as were people in non-remote areas, compared with those in remote areas (61% and 49%, respectively)

Increasing employment rates is key to reducing Indigenous disadvantage. In 2014–15, more than one in five (22%) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 15 years and over had experienced physical or threatened physical violence in the last 12 months. This has not changed significantly since 2008
Judicial council on cultural diversity As First Nation Peoples, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders have a singular place in Australia. However, a history of violence, dispossession and social exclusion experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people has contributed to their over-representation in the criminal justice system and almost every other measure of social and economic disadvantage.
Closing the justice gap On 11 February 2010 Prime Minister Kevin Rudd delivered his second annual 'Closing the Gap Statement'.[1] The Statement addressed the mortality and education gap and responded to the housing and employment disadvantage suffered by Indigenous Australians. The Statement did not however acknowledge the 'justice gap' faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Access to justice The report addressed two broad research questions: The first is an analysis of the civil and family law needs of Aboriginal people in New South Wales. The second arose out of the legal needs analysis and explore how Legal Aid NSW might improve the services that they provide to Aboriginal clients in the areas of civil and family law.
The ability of Indigenous people to access justice This chapter discusses evidence presented to the inquiry regarding term of reference (f), the ability of Indigenous peoples to access justice. In general, submitters and witnesses argued that Indigenous legal services do not appropriately and adequately cater to the needs of Indigenous people, particularly women.

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Survey, 2014-15: Health More than four in 10 (46%) people had at least one chronic condition that posed a significant health problem in 2018–19, up from 40% in 2012–13. This survey by the ABS discusses the risk factors relating to Indigenous health in Australia. There are breakdowns of this information on the side index.
