About Thancoupie

Thancoupie was born Gloria James near Napranum, Weipa on the western coast of Cape York Peninsula, Far North Queensland. Thanakupi, or wattle flower, was her avay, or birth ritual name. We were asked by Ports North to cover the unveiling of a new sculpture constructed by world known indigenous artist Thanakupi. We worked together to construct a dvd which told of the making along with the story of the legend on the sculpture. This is that story.
