We meet the owners of several successful and very different small businesses - and find out how they address the challenges that each business function poses. All aspects of small business from planning, marketing, accounting and finance, operations and employment relations are addressed and we see graphically, just how these functions are interdependent.

Using a case study of a newly established restaurant, this programme investigates: · What a business plan is, and why it is important. · Different types of business plans. · The key elements of a business plan – vision and mission statements, operations, marketing, finance, the executive summary. · Common planning tools – SWOT analysis, break-even analysis. · The importance of regularly evaluating the business plan.

This programme focuses on how three different businesses effectively apply marketing strategies, focusing on the 4P's of marketing; product, place, price and promotion. Analysed are common aspects that relate to all markets, and how they come together forming part the marketing mix. Exploring methods which can be applied to a range of products and services, it becomes clear how marketing plans are put into action.
