Village Voices is an interactive artwork, designed to capture and share diverse local stories and forgotten histories, in the form of poetry or prose.
Always interested in communication, signs and symbols, Jasper Johns asks the viewer over 60 years of making art to re-consider the familiar world around us which we take for granted such as flags, numbers, maps and targets. He selects, animates and re-interprets ordinary images and objects in his art, things he says 'the mind already knows'. Johns shares many interests with Robert Rauschenberg and is very influenced by the artist Marcel Duchamp, the musician John Cage and the choreographer Merce Cunningham. With a contribution from the exhibition curator Dr Roberta Bernstein, Grace and Joshua focus on some key works which illustrate his style, method and ideas.
JEFF KOONS is a MOCA commissioned mini-documentary on the career of artist Jeff Koons, directed by Oscar Boyson.
Of all the artistic mediums, 'performance art' is perhaps the most difficult to define. From violent interaction, to political expression and shocking self-mutilation, performance artists engage their bodies as canvas. Shocking? Certainly. Political? Often. But performance art can also be beautiful, creating arresting images guaranteed to take your breath away. Australia boasts some of the world's most pioneering of performance artists, from Stelarc and his self-suspension by meat hooks, to Mike Parr and his limb amputations. Businessman and philanthropist, John Kaldor, has dedicated his life to bringing the world's leading artists to Australia including Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Jeff Koons who created 'Puppy' in 1995 outside Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art, and Gilbert and George. Kaldor Public Arts Projects' most challenging project yet - 13 Rooms - is about to open in Sydney. Some of the world's biggest performance names will be there including Marina Abramovic, Damien Hirst and Joan Jonas. On the eve of this major art installation, Artscape: Don't try this at home: Performance Art in Australia explores the ancient art of performance, touching on some of the international artists Australia has hosted, as well as retracing our own significant contributions to the form through to its current manifestation in the digital era.
